Mobile Traffic and Mobile Giving

Let’s start by looking at some data.

The first graph shows mobile traffic growth projections from 2016 to 2023 (Ericsson.com).  The projection here is that 95% of mobile data will come from smartphones by 2023 — within 5 years.

The second shows an already measurable increase of 50% in the donor-device-giving relationship (M+R Benchmarks, April 2018). Supporting the M+R data, the Chronicle of Philanthropy also reports that mobile giving shot up 80% from 2013 to 2016 (Joslyn, 2016).

Ready for the mobile world.

Cisco projects the average global mobile network speed will increase from 6.8 mbps in 2016 to 20.4 mbps by 2021 (not shown on graph) (Cisco Systems, 2017).

Make it snappy. Responsiveness Matters.

Single second delay on site load time can decrease traffic by 11% --meaning fewer people donating and returning to the site (M+R Benchmarks April 2018 ) .

The Fast Forward for (some) NonProfits

While mature nonprofits will already have mobile fundraising strategies in place — small, medium and burgeoning nonprofits will especially benefit from incorporating mobile giving in the months and years to come.
